Roanoke - June Rose Huschen of Roanoke, passed away on at 1:43 pm on Saturday June 6th 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, one day after celebrating her 90th birthday.
June was born to Carl and Rose Rentsch Sauder on June 5, 1925 and raised on the family farm one mile south of Roanoke. June graduated from Roanoke Victory High School and attended Bradley University, where she joined the Chi Omega sorority and began a "Round Robin" correspondence with her sorority sisters that continued until her death. She married Brachter H. Huschen on August 24, 1947 in Roanoke. Together they enjoyed raising their family and visiting Florida. He died on June 9, 1990.
She is survived by her children Anne (Alan) Lerner, Lake Forest, Il, Nancy (Mike) Seitz, Brentwood, TN, Mary (Bill) Steinbicker, Minnetonka, MN and John (Nancy) Huschen, Roanoke, Il; grandchildren Josh (Kelly) Lerner, Drew Lerner, Matt (Samantha) Lerner, Luke Seitz, Jason Seitz, Emily Huschen, Brac (Jenna) Huschen, Dan Huschen, Sam Huschen and Dr. Max Huschen; great-grandchildren Elias and Paxton Lerner; brother Gary (Phyllis) Sauder, sister Nancy (Everett) Gerber, sister-in-law Marlis Sauder 12 nieces and nephews, many cousins and devoted friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother Jack Sauder.
June served on the Illinois Prairie District Library board for many years, where she had served as president for 15 years. She provided hospitality for St. Jude runners at the Roanoke Park and volunteered at Eureka Hospital. She enthusiastically supported all her grandchildren's sports and academic activities. An avid reader and theater goer, she never tired of trying something new. Her most cherished times were those spent with her children and grandchildren.
June was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Benson where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday June 10th . Rev. Nathan Feig and Pastor Frank Kandel will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Tuesday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home and from 10:30 - 11:00 am on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Roanoke Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Nursing Home, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Benson or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at knappjohnsonharris.com.
