Charles J. “Pete” Remmers, 84, of Roanoke, IL entered the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on October 24, 2021, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born of God’s Grace on September 14, 1937, in Secor, IL to Charles Z. and Henereka Garrels Remmers. He married Kay Ilene Fehr on April 6th, 1958, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Secor, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his two sons, Kevin C. (Sandra) Remmers of Roanoke, IL; Alex W. (Ann) Remmers of Cranberry Township, PA; four grandchildren, Ilene A. Remmers, Greeley, CO; Charles R. Remmers, Roanoke; IL; Mathew L. Remmers and Madelyn Kay Remmers both of Cranberry Township, PA; and one sister, Betty Morris of Colorado Springs, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, James C. Remmers.
Pete served his country in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Roanoke American Legion Post #463, serving as their finance officer for a number of years.
He was a self-employed farmer since 1960 and an IL licensed plumber since 1972. He worked for E. Rocke & Sons as a carpenter for 10 years and was part owner of Washburn Plumbing and Heating business for a few years. He served as a director on the Roanoke Farmers Association board from 1985-1997.
Pete was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Roanoke. He served his church as head usher, trustee, elder, and vice chairman. He was also an associate member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fort Myers, FL.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Roanoke. Rev. Bruce Scarbeary will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and from 9-9:45 am on Saturday prior to the services at the church. Burial with military rites will be held at Roanoke Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Roanoke American Legion Post #463, P.O. Box 377, Roanoke, IL 61561; Lutheran Bible Translators, 303 N. Lake St., Box 2050, Aurora, IL 60506-2050; or Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke, Good Samaritan Fund, 1102 W. Randolph Street, Roanoke, IL 61561.
