Benson - Dennis John "Diz" Meinhold, 75, of Benson, passed away at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at his residence.
He was born on May 20, 1942 in Linn Township, IL to Emmett H. and Virginia Campbell Meinhold. He married Janet Brooks on July 3, 1965 in Benson, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, John (Susan) Meinhold of Benson; Shari (Brian) Beenders of Germantown Hills; Tammy (Keith) Barth of Pattonsburg; one brother, Emmett (Nancy) Meinhold of Benson; one sister, Sandra Meismer of Benson; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant granddaughters, Audrey and Sarah Barth.
Dennis was in the fertilizer business for 35 years and he also drove a semi-truck for several years.
Diz adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed watching the White Sox, playing cards, coaching his Benson fast pitch softball team, and snowmobiling. He loved his family dearly and had a zest for life. He was at his happiest when his family and friends were surrounding him.
He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson where funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday May 3, 2018. Pastor David Abuya will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 on Wednesday May 2, 2018, at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and also from 9-9:45 am on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
