Donald Punke

BENSON - Donald L. Punke, 90, of Benson, IL passed away at 4:15 am on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora.

He was born on June 28, 1930 in Bloomington, IL to Arthur and Florence Zimmerman Punke.  He married Gloria Moritz on January 21, 1957 in Benson, IL.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Paul Punke of Oak Park, IL; Brian (Kim) Punke of Eureka, IL and one grandson, Dylan Punke of Eureka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.

Don was a Marine Corp veteran and proudly served his country during the Korean War.  He was a member of the Benson Legion Post #454.

Don worked for Caterpillar for 25 years retiring in 1990.

He loved to bowl, fish, and golf and was a charter member of Tall Oaks Country Club in Toluca.  He enjoyed going to Florida with his wife Gloria and especially loved going to all of his grandson Dylan’s sporting activities over the years.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Benson where funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Monday April 26, 2021.  Visitation will be from 1-2pm prior to the services at the church.  Burial with military rites will be held at Clayton Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Benson American Legion, or the Benson Ambulance.  Online condolences and tributes may be given to the family at knappjohnsonharris.com.
