Eureka - Dorothy Caroline Zimmerman, 96, of Eureka, passed away
peacefully at
6:00 AM on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Apostolic Christian
Home of Eureka, Illinois.
Born August 9, 1916, in Eureka to John and Emma (Beer)
Zimmerman, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters,
Lawrence, Laura (Stoller), Elizabeth, Alma (Baum), Harvey, Walter,
and Margaret (Kercher). She is survived by two half-sisters, Evelyn
Gudeman and Gladys Schmidgall (of Nima
Beer), both of Eureka, Illinois. Also surviving are her over 100
devoted nieces and nephews of three generations.
Dorothy was a loving aunt to all of these, but was close to the
family of her sister Alma (Gus Baum), with whom she lived for 31
years in Highland Park, Illinois. She will always be fondly
remembered by Lois Krupp (David), John Baum (Nan)
and Lynnea Rosner (Leonard), whose lives she shared as she
worked in the family
bakery shop for over 30 years.
Dorothy loved gardening and had many fond memories of her
father's farmstead
on Route 117. Walking, fishing and nature study were among her
other interests. She continued to enjoy baking when she moved to
Snyder Village, Metamora in 1988, with her sister Elizabeth, with
whom she lived for over 60 years. Family members recall the
delicious packages of Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas cookies
that "the Aunts" always dispensed on those holidays.
Dorothy treasured time spent with family members and her Beer
cousins, hosting coffees and dinners at her Snyder Village cottage
with Elizabeth.
Dorothy's kind spirit, gentle ways and warm smile will be sorely
missed and always remembered by her family and friends.
She was a member of many years at the Roanoke, Chicago and
Schaumburg Apostolic Christian Churches and in her final 24 years
at the church in Eureka.
Services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, August 14 at the Eureka
Apostolic Christian Church. Visitation will be held Monday, August
13, from 5 to 7 PM, at the Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in
Eureka and from 9:00 - 9:45 AM at the church before services on
Tuesday. Burial will be at Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church
cemetery.
The family would like to express their thanks to Todd Harris of
the funeral home,
to the staff at Snyder Village and at Eureka Apostolic Christian
Home, and to
Peg Stoller of Methodist Hospice.
