Elizabeth DeGiovanni

April 4, 1936 — September 28, 2016

Elizabeth L. "Betty" DeGiovanni, 80, of Roanoke, IL passed away at 3:00 am on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Snyder Village in Metamora after a summer of illness.

She was born on April 4, 1936 in Roanoke, IL the second daughter of James "Red" and Aldina Santi DeGiovanni.

She is survived by her siblings, Mary Jo Short, Teresa (Dr. William) Elwood, Joseph (Jane) DeGiovanni, Margaret (Robert) Cassidy, John "Tony" (Marian) DeGiovanni, M.D., sister-in-law Connie DeGiovanni, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Jeffrey, one brother James DeGiovanni (Ret. USAF Lt. Col), and one brother-in-law Richard Short.

Betty was the 1954 valedictorian of her class at Roanoke Victory High School. She lived in Roanoke her entire life and provided after school care for many of her nieces and nephews.

Her most important contribution was the care given to her mother for the last 8-10 years of her long life which allowed her mother to remain in her own home until she passed away at age 95. Betty's family could never thank her enough for this generous endeavor.

In return, her family gives many thanks to her nieces, Diane (Randy) Rudin and Gale Lynn (Dennis) McClain for their loving and compassionate care of Betty. Also to Chuck and Patty Rudin for their help; her next door neighbors Gary and Kim Beenders who looked out for Betty's welfare; and her great niece Shelley Rudin who always brightened Betty's day. Lastly, a special thank you to Snyder Village and OSF Hospice for the final care of Betty. Their kindness and compassionate care was the first that Betty didn't try to escape.

Betty was a life long Cubs fan but always too nervous to watch them play. Maybe now that she's in Heaven she can overcome this!

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society in Roanoke where funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10:00 am. Fr. Eugene Radosevich will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Roanoke Township Cemetery.
