Elmer J. Nelson

Normal-Elmer "Pete" J. Nelson,96,
of Normal, passed away at 10:25 pm on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at
Advocate BroMenn Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church in Normal with
Pastor Christopher Hull and Pastor Jonathan Huehn officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at
Christ Lutheran Church in Normal and one hour prior to the service
at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in Park Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is handling
arrangements.

Elmer was born March 17, 1916 in
Elliot, IL., to Henry O. and Bertha C. (Olson) Nelson. He married
Doloris Peak on April 8, 1940 in Bloomington. She preceded him in
death on August 23, 2005.

Surviving are his children, Carol
DeAnn (Roger) Weber of Normal; Joseph L. Nelson of Nashville, Tenn;
Rita Schrack of Melvin, IL; Michael (Michele) Nelson of Chicago;
seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Rod) Reinhardt, Stacy (Mike)
Livingston, Delora Nelson, Mary Nelson, Michelle (Pat) Celeschi,
Heather DeLong and Malea Schrack; and 12 great_grandchildren,
Kelsey Reinhardt, Kristin Reinhardt, Tyler Livingston, Emma
Livingston, Jacob Celeschi, Delaney Celeschi, William Stinlicht,
Alyssa Goff, Adam Delong, Devon Gray, Beau Schrack and Jaden
Schrack.

He was preceded in death by his
parents, three sisters, Martha, Marie, Mildred and four brothers,
Nels, Ole, Henry and John.

Elmer worked for Illinois Power
Company for 47 years as a foreman at the Steam Plant, after the
steam plant closed he ran the Diesel Plant up until his retirement
on November 1, 1982.

He was a member of the Christ
Lutheran Church, in earlier years he sang in the church choir and
served as an elder in the church, he also attended the Joy Bible
Class.

Elmer was a avid reader and
completed his GED at the age of 55 years old. He was a hard worker
and a loving kind person. Lord and family was very important to
him.

A special thanks to the staff and
care givers at Heritage Manor in Normal and Evergreen Place, the
family is very appreciative of the care given to Elmer, also thank
you to the Christ Lutheran Church family, ministers, youth and
Sunday school for all the special things they have done.
