Florence Wuthrich
Roanoke - Florence Emma"Flo" Wuthrich, 100, of Roanoke, is rejoicing with the angels as God took her home to be with him at 8:05 am on Sunday May 13, 2018 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Roanoke.
She was born on January 20, 1918 in Roanoke, the daughter of Christian and Elizbeth Schumacher Hodel. She married Willis Wuthrich on May 19, 1946 in Roanoke. He was her soul mate, partner and supporter until his death on November 26, 1996.
Surviving are her three children, Lynn Wuthrich; Bill (Kathy) Wuthrich; and Bonnie (Ed) Sauder; six grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mildred "Mick" Hodel. All will deeply miss her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Ann Wagler and Marie Goetzinger; and two brothers, Harold and Bob Hodel.
Flo was member of the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church and trusted God with all her heart. She greeted everyone with a warm smile and loving spirt up to her last days. She was concerned that not one soul be lost without God and was in prayer constantly for her family and her community. She loved to play Scrabble and do crossword puzzles in the daily paper and she enjoyed entertaining others in her home for luncheons and dinners.
As a young girl on the farm she was in charge of keeping her two brothers out of trouble and one of her chores was to bring in cobs for the cook stove so her mother could cook breakfast.
In a time when women business leaders were a rarity, Flo operated the bookstore at Eureka College and was hired by Illinois Central College to start the bookstore at the original temporary campus and then move and enlarge it at the new permanent campus. Flo spoke at seminars across the United States on how to start and manage a college bookstore.
In spite of her hectic schedule, Flow and Willis provided a safe, loving home for their children and grandchildren. They modeled Christian living and loving. They traveled the united states extensively on camping trips with the kids every summer and enjoyed several trips to Europe later in life.
A memorial service for Flo will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday May 17, 2018 at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church. Church ministers will officiate. Per the families wishes, there will be no visitation and private family burial will be in the church cemetery.
