Benson - Geneva P. Thompson, 89, of Benson, passed away at 6:45 am on Monday June 30, 2014 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.
She was born on October 26, 1924 in Benson, IL to Theodore and Lena Flohr Baumann. She married James L. Thompson on February 26, 1945 in Benson, IL. He passed away on May 4, 2003.
Surviving is one son, James Jr. (Jane) Thompson of Eureka; two daughters, Connie (Gene) Weiss of Washburn; Bonnie Powell of Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Kerri (Tim) Laible; Brad (Kim) Weiss; Jared Thompson; Jordan (Rachel) Thompson; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Milford (Ginny) Baumann of Benson; two sisters, Angie (Lloyd) Haas of Benson; Marcia (Duane) Hartzler of Minonk; two sister-in-laws, Alice Baumann and Ruth Thompson both of Benson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law Jack Powell; one brother, Everett Baumann; and one brother-in-law Rodney Thompson.
Geneva had owned and operated ACT I dress shop in Roanoke and then later in Benson. After she and her husband moved to Naples, FL, she worked at Vanity Fair dress shop in Naples.
She was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Benson and was a member of the Benson American Legion Auxiliary. She freely extended her gifts of hospitality and great cooking to her family and many friends. Nothing brought Geneva more joy than being with her family.
Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a memorial service at 11:00 am on Wednesday July 2nd at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson. Rev. William Hecht will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10-11 am prior to the services at the church. Private burial of ashes will be held in Clayton Township cemetery at a later date. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church or to the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.knappjohnsonharris.com.
