Bloomington-
Ione Thomas, 85, of Bloomington, passed away
peacefully, at LeRoy Manor on February 14, 2014 at 4:39
a.m.
Her funeral will be at 11:00 am,
Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church with
Pastors Thomas Wirsing and Carl Miller officiating. Visitation will
be held from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church on
Wednesday.
Interment will be at East Lawn
Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials can
be made to the Trinity Lutheran School kitchen/cafeteria,
Alzheimer's chapter and/or LeRoy manor "Garden Court".
Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home is assisting the family with
arrangements.
Ione was born March 10, 1928 in
Jamestown North Dakota the daughter of Silas and Lillian Garvin.
She married Virgil E Thomas December 18, 1948 in Bloomington. He
preceded her in death on April 18, 1993.
Ione is survived by her children
Rita (Rick) Boerema, Mahomet; Russell (Pam) Thomas, Normal; Ruth
(Paul) Gerike, Bloomington; and Roxanne (Sam) Ventimiglia, Normal;
Daughter - in- law Bonnie Roberts, Owensboro Ky. Grandchildren
Brett (Donna) Thomas, Monroe, WA; LaDonna (Denis) Thomas, St Thomas
Virgin Islands; John Thomas, Owensboro Ky; Ellen (Joann) Thomas,
Bloomington; Michael Anderson, Monroe WA; Thomas (Megan) Anderson,
Harrisburg NC; Kristi (Don) Selucky, Normal; Aaron Boerema,
Champaign; Rachel Boerema, Champaign; Jennifer (Ryan) Niezgoda,
Cincinnati OH; Brad Gerike, Richardson Texas;
Cathy (Honor) Coleman, Bloomington; and Bill Ventimiglia, Normal.
She has 9 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and
her niece Karen (Ed) Van Hook, Bloomington
In addition to her husband Virgil,
Ione was preceded in death by a son Vernon, sister Audrey and a
great grandson Harrison.
Ione was an excellent cook and made
many special dishes for family and friends. She enjoyed cooking so
much, she made it her career working at Trinity Lutheran School
cooking for not only her children, but several of her grandchildren
and countless others; she started working at Trinity Lutheran
School in 1965 and retired in 1992.
She also held other part-time jobs
in the food industry and worked at the Mission Mart after her
retirement.
As a member of Trinity Lutheran she
was active in the Married League, Parent Teachers League, Altar
guild, Bible study, and was a Sunday School teacher, and Sunday
church greeter.
The family would like to thank the
Staff at LeRoy Manor Nursing home for the excellent care they
provided Ione, they are special people who have become extended
family to us.
