James J. Haas
El Paso- James J. Haas, 89, of El Paso, IL passed away at 2:39
am on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Heritage Health in El Paso, IL
where he was a resident.
He was born on January 4, 1924 in El Paso, IL a son of Andrew
and Eliza Kelly Haas. He married Frances "Dolly" Harms on March 1,
1949 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in El Paso, IL. She passed away
on April 1, 2005.
Surviving are eight children, Kathy (Bob) Bittner of Fairbury,
IL; Susie (Dan) Boian of Chenoa, IL; Mary Lu (Paul) Ahrens of
Normal, IL; Lisa Sparrow of Bloomington, IL; Andy Haas of Normal,
IL; Tony (Linda) Haas; Matt Haas; Jeff Haas all of El Paso, IL;
sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Theresa;
four sisters and five brothers.
James worked as the El Paso Township Road Commissioner and owned
and operated Haas Shell. He had also worked as a mechanic for
Heller Ford.
A Navy veteran, he served his country during the Korean War. He
was a member of the El Paso VFW and American Legion, El Paso Fire
Department, and the El Paso Golf Club.
James was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church where his
funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 14,
2013. Father Roger Corpus and Father Carl LoPresti will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4-8 pm at the
Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso with a rosary service being
held at 3:45 pm before the visitation starts. Burial with military
rites will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in El Paso.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church
or the Wounded Warriors Project. Online condolences may be sent to
