Roanoke-James R. Hodel, 87, of Roanoke, IL won his victory at 2:12 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2017 and went to be with Jesus as he was surrounded by his family at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home. He had prepared for this moment since turning his life over to the Lord at the age of 18.
Jim was born on April 7, 1930 in Roanoke, IL a son of Silas and Caroline Huber Hodel. He married Doris Getz on January 14, 1959 in Morton, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Terri Carr of El Paso; Curt (Jenell) Hodel of Roanoke; Jim (Connie) Hodel of Roanoke; Gary Hodel of Carlock; Linda Hodel of Eureka; one brother, Roy (Helen) Hodel of Gridley; one sister, Dorothy (Marvin) Schmidgall of Eureka; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law, Joe Carr; three brothers, Ralph, William, and Gerald Hodel; five sisters, Mildred Aeschleman, Norma Baumann, Irene Legel, Verda Blunier, and Malinda Gerber.
Jim farmed in the Roanoke area all of his life. He was also the owner of Jim Hodel, Inc. a short line livestock equipment dealership. He served on the board at Roanoke Farmer's Association and had been a past president.
He was also a member of the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and church trustee. He enjoyed volunteering at the Midwest Food Bank and Mennonite Relief Sale where he had made many friends. His greatest love was spending time with his family and grandchildren. Jim also enjoyed traveling and music, especially deer fry's where he loved to sing and play his guitar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4-7 pm at the Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and from 9-9:45 am before the church service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
