Janette M. Walker Joyce, 70 of Bloomington, passed away on Monday,
February 18,
2013 at her residence at 11:32 am.
Funeral services will be held on
Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Union Missionary Baptist Church in
Bloomington at 11:00 am with Rev. Phenues Bush officiating.
Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 9-11 am
prior to the Funeral services.
Interment will be in Evergreen
Memorial Cemetery in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be directed to Union Missionary Baptist Church
Sunday School Department, or to the NAACP in Janette's name. The
family of Janette has entrusted the care of their loved one to
Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington.
Janette Martha Walker Joyce was
born on December 15, 1942 in New Orleans, Louisiana a daughter of
O'neal and Myrtle (Lee) Walker. She was a graduate of
Clark High School in New Orleans and then attended Southern
University in Baton Rouge, LA where she obtained her Bachelor's
Degree in Education. Janette married Lionel Livingston Joyce, Sr.
in New Orleans in 1968.
She leaves to cherish her memory,
her children, Joseph Joyce of Indianapolis, IN, Lionel (Rosario)
Joyce, Jr. of
Bloomington, Karen Joyce, and Terrence Joyce both of New Orleans,
LA; 7 grandchildren, Khristopher Williams, Steffon
Joyce-Shadewaldt, Ramone Pippens, Reyhana Pippens, Marie Joyce,
Lionel Joyce III, and Cardella Joyce; 2 great-grandchildren,
Jermiah Pippens and Kayden Williams; nephew, Terrence (Nicole)
Emerson of Indianapolis, IN. A host of nieces and other nephews
also survive. Also surviving is her prayer partner, Mrs.
Beulah Brown; special friends, Anita Sherrer of Jacksonville, FL,
Milton and Donna Guzman, Jeffrey and Sheila Staten, Bobby
Johnson, Mother Tucker and, Mamie and Willie Jeff Duggon.
Janette was preceded in death by
her grandparents, parents, her twin sister, Joan Marie Walker, a
favorite aunt, Virginia Miller, and cousins, Leroy Emerson, and
Leroy Emerson, Jr.
She was an Educator and retired
from Irving Elementary School after more than 33 years of service
there as a
teacher. Janette was a member of Union Missionary Baptist
Church in Bloomington where she served as a Sunday School Teacher,
and an usher in the church for many years. She was baptized
in 1955 at the Stronger Hope Baptist Church by Rev. J.C. Profit,
Jr. in New Orleans.
Janette was an avid sports fan and
enjoyed watching basketball, football, and baseball. She truly
enjoyed watching the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles
Lakers. She was proud to be involved in and supportive of the
Mother's at her church helping them when needed.
She enjoyed her family greatly,
loved taking her grandchildren shopping and greatly enjoyed bossing
her two sons, Lionel and Joseph around. Janette also enjoyed
every summer in New Orleans with her family. She will be
sadly missed by her family and friends.
