Pekin - Jerry J. Hangartner, 85, of Pekin, passed away at 11:37 pm on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at his residence.
He was born on December 27, 1932 in Roanoke, IL to Joseph and Nila Snyder Hangartner. He married Melba Blunier on July 5, 1953 in El Paso, IL. She passed away on February 26, 2014.
Surviving are his children, Jeff (Teresa) Hangartner of Pekin; Jay (Julie) Hangartner of Celina, TX; Janese Hangartner of Pekin; Jon (Kim) Hangartner of Peoria; one sister, Betty Ekiss of Morton; six grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Shirley Henderson; and one brother, Jim Hangartner.
An Air Force Veteran, Jerry proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the Roanoke American Legion.
Jerry worked as a claims adjuster for Pekin Insurance for 35 years before retiring in 1997.
He was an assistant Boy Scout Master with the local Boy Scouts and was active with the Junior Achievements. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to travel with his wife Melba.
He loved family and was proud to know that his Hangartner name and legacy is being carried on by his sons, grandsons, and great grandsons.
He was a member of the Tremont Apostolic Christian Church where funeral services will be held at 10 am on Tuesday April 17th. Church ministers will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday April 16th at the Tremont Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall and from 9-9:45 am on Tuesday prior to the services at the church. Burial with military rites will be held at 1:30 pm at Roanoke Township Cemetery. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is assisting the family with arrangements.
