John Stickel

John E. "Ted" Stickel

Lacon-John E. "Ted" Stickel, 62, passed away peacefully at the
home of his brother at 8:05 p.m. on Monday August 13, 2012.
He was born on December 15, 1949 in Peoria to Ray L. And Phyllis
(Grieves) Stickel.

He is survived by his father, Ray, of Lacon; his brother Blake
(Marilyn) Stickel, of Lacon; 10 nieces and nephews; and 15
great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis and his sister,
Marcie Hendricks.

Ted worked for the Marshall County Highway Department and also
for Greenview Nurseries for over 20 years.  Ted was a
horticulturist and a certified arborist. His beautifully landscaped
yard was a tribute to his knowledge and his love of
gardening.  He shared his love of gardening with Lacon through
his Beeshed Nursery.  Ted had a played a huge role in starting
the Lacon Tree Relief Committee and planting hundreds of trees in
Lacon.  He was a former member of the Lacon-Sparland Fire
Department.  He was a member of the Lacon AF & AM Lodge #
61 and the Treasurer of the 15 Club.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Visitation will be
from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday August 25, 2012 at Lenz Memorial
Home in Lacon.  Services will be at 6:00 p.m., following the
visitation; the Reverend Casey Taylor will officiate. Burial of
ashes will be at the Grieves/Blackstone Cemetery at a later
date.  Memorials may be made in Ted's name to the
Lacon-Sparland Fire Department.  Online condolences may be
