Benson- Lloyd E. Haase, 90, of Benson, IL, passed away at 10am on Saturday January 10, 2015 at his residence.
He was born on July 14, 1924 in Benson, IL to Victor and Marie Johnson Haase. He married Angie Baumann on February 15, 1947 in Benson. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sherril (Chuck) West of Washington, IL; Vickie (Richard) Bittner of East Peoria; five grandchildren, Nic (Dave) Klings; Samantha (Brian) Young; Colleen Forbes; David (Wendy) Merritt; Jeff (Jennifer) Merritt; eleven great grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia (Milford) Baumann of Benson.
He was preceded by his parents, one daughter, Lorna Haase; and three brothers, Virgil, Calvin, and Dewayne Haase.
An Army veteran, Lloyd proudly served his country during WWII. He was a 62 year member of the Benson American Legion Post #454 and a charter member of the VFW post #2078 in East Peoria, IL.
Lloyd worked at Caterpillar for 38 years, starting as a welder and retiring as foreman at the Caterpillar proving grounds.
Lloyd was always willing to serve others and was a past volunteer fireman for the Benson Fire Department and had served as president of board for Woodmore Special Education School. His willingness to assist and serve those with disabilities for many years was acknowledged by PARC with a special recognition award.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Benson where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Rev. Nathan Feig will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Tuesday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and from 10-10:45 am on Wednesday at the church. Burial with military rites will be in Clayton Township Cemetery, Benson.
