Lois Martin
Roanoke - Lois Irene Martin, 83, of Roanoke IL passed away Sunday, October 22nd in her home surrounded by family.
Lois was born in Roanoke on November 1, 1933 to Regina Esther Florence (Wyss) Beer and Raymond William Beer. She married Robert S. Martin on June 27, 1953 in Roanoke.
Lois is survived by her husband Robert, of rural Roanoke, and four children, Carol (David) Romersberger of Palmyra, MO; Robert (VaNessa) Martin of Pekin; Gregory Martin of Germantown Hills; and Laurie Martin of Denver, CO. Lois was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren: DeLene (Martin) Bane of Pekin: Robert Martin III of Los Angeles, CA; Kathryn (Romersberger) Woolard of Overland Park, KS; Samuel Romersberger of Shawnee Mission, KS; Sarah Martin of Munich, Germany; Gregory Alan Martin II of Peoria, Derek Farney of Jackson, WY; and Nicholas Farney of Victor, ID. Lois was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Sydney, Robert IV, Brett Jr, Lily, Colette, Colton, Greyson, Coral and Sage. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also mourn her passing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Donald Beer and Jay Dee Beer, a sister Colleen Robinson and a grandson Gregory Alan (A.J.) Martin Jr.
Lois was educated in Roanoke and Iowa schools, graduating from Roanoke High School in 1951. Lois was a life-long homemaker.
She enjoyed many activities, and whatever she attempted she strived to do it well! She loved reading and solving puzzles, playing the piano and organ, genealogy, horses, bookkeeping, ballroom dancing with her husband, seeing Broadway musicals, enjoying Fannie Mae pixies, hosting friends and family at ‘the cabin' in Wisconsin, watching the Chicago Bulls play (in the day) and traveling. Lois was a very kind hearted, generous soul who was always ready and willing to help whomever or wherever she saw a need. She was grateful that she and her sister, Colleen, were able to accompany their parents to Switzerland, from where the Wyss and Beer families had emigrated in the 1800's. Family was foremost in Lois' life, and in recent years she especially appreciated the regular gathering of "cousins".
The family is deeply thankful to Mrs. Damara Mohn, OSF Hospice and to Matt Feucht for their gracious and loving care for Lois during her illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday October 26th at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke. Matt Feucht will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 pm also at the funeral home. Burial at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church cemetery will immediately follow the funeral service.
Following Lois' and Bobs' request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Midwest Food Bank or the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke. Online condolences may be sent to the family at knappjohnsonharris.com
