Eureka- Mabel Lucille Blunk, 99,
formerly of Eureka, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 6:43 a.m.
at the Hopedale Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for 2
years. She was four days from celebrating her 100th
birthday.
She was born on June 22, 1913 in
Eureka, the daughter of Joseph A. and Selma A. (Hoffmann)Honeg. She
married Richard B. "Dick" Blunk in 1937. He preceded her in death
in June 1954 at the age of 47.
Mabel is survived by one sister,
Vivian Huff of Normal; nieces and nephews, Saundra Nance, Steven
Bilbrey, Connie Salyer, Marcia Schrage, Rhonda Schmitt, Sheryl
Evans, Janet Roberts, Jeri Lee Wethington, Laurel Sedgwick and
Sharon Huff and many grand nieces and grand nephews.
Mabel was preceded in death by her
parents, one sister, Pearl Bilbrey, two brothers, Joseph F. Honeg
and William J. Honeg, one niece, Janice Firmand and two nephews,
William G. Honeg and Richard J. Honeg.
She was employed for many years by
the Illinois Department of Public Aid in Eureka.
She was a long-time member of Our
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eureka.
In her younger days, she was an
avid and talented dancer who won many trophies from the Arthur
Murray School of Dance. At the age of 85, Mabel was introduced to a
pet hedgehog and discovered a love for animals, especially
hedgehogs and squirrels.
Mabel was a loving wife, daughter,
sister, and aunt who will be greatly missed by her family and
friends.
Funeral services will be at 11:30
a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home
in Eureka with Rev. Joe Burns officiating. Visitation will be one
hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial
will be in the Olio Township Cemetery.
