Marvin R. Eckhoff, 87, of Decatur, formerly of Benson, passed away at 9:53 p.m., Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur, IL.
He was born January 18, 1931 in Benson, IL, the son of Joseph and Carrie (Moritz) Eckhoff. He married Patricia Ann Stromberger on June 24, 1951 in Eureka, IL. She survives and resides in Decatur, IL.
Also surviving are his children: Marge (Steve) Kasten of Hoyleton, IL, Steven (Donna) Eckhoff of Sun City West, AZ, Jeanne Brennan of Metamora, IL, DeAnn (John) Heck of Moweaqua, IL; one sister Carolyn Rauh of Metamora, IL; nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Fern Eva Arch and his son-in-law Len Brennan.
Marvin was a Benson High School graduate and farmed his entire life in the Benson area. He received the FFA National Star Farmer Award and was a member of the Woodford County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the Roanoke-Benson school board for nine years. He was a precinct committeeman for Woodford County Republicans and member of the Central Illinois Antique Dealers Association. He was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in rural Benson, IL where he served in several positions over the years. He also enjoyed collecting antique toys and pottery.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2018 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 1781 County Road 2000, Benson. Pastor David Abuya will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the church and from 9 to 9:45 at the church prior to services on Friday. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
