Roanoke- Marvin R. Yordy, 87, of Roanoke, IL passed away at 8:08a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Asta Care Center of Bloomington.
He was born on November 21, 1927 in Roanoke, IL to Amos and Jessie Switzer Yordy. He married Margaret "Peggy" Yordy on December 4, 1951 in Traer, IA. She survives.
Also surviving is two daughters, Linda(Thomas) Dooly of Mulberry Grove, IL; Julie(Paul) Davis of Normal, IL; two sons, Mark(Kelly) Yordy of Bloomington, IL; Peter Yordy of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren, Matthew(Brittany) Dooly, Sara(Owen) Bryant, Erin(Ramy) Moreland, Rachel(Ben) Miller, Michael Yordy, Jamey(Frank) Wesselhoff, Kristen Blankenship, David Blankenship, Joel Blankenship, Ryan Davis, Katelyn Davis, Sandra Yordy; nine great-grandchildren, Grace Dooly, Madelyn Dooly, Evelyn Moreland, Rory Moreland, Ryan Miller, Charlotte Miller, Brendan Elston, Dawson Elston, Molly Wesselhoff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Amos M. and Daniel Yordy; one daugther, Jessie Yordy; one grandson, Jesse Blankenship; one great grandson, Landon Elston; one great granddaughter, Faith Bryant.
Marvin served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War where he obtained the rank of Sargeant in the 6TH Marines in the 2nd Marine Division. He was a member of the Roanoke American Legion Post #463.
He worked at Caterpillar retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the NRA, Retired & Senior Volunteer Program(RSVP) at Maple Lawn in Eureka, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke. Pastor Marty Waite will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke. Burial with full military rites will be in the Panther Creek Cemetery in rural Roanoke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the Panther Creek Cemetery in rural Roanoke. Online condolences may be sent to the family at knappjohnsonharris.com.
