Pekin- Nelson Gene Blunier, 86, of Pekin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 4:45 pm on Saturday May 16, 2015 at Pekin Hospital, in Pekin, IL.
He was born on August 2, 1928 in Roanoke, IL to Charles L. and Ella Beer Blunier. He married Sharon Grendel on November 2, 1958 in Roanoke, IL.
Nelson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon Blunier of Pekin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ella Blunier.
An Army veteran, Nelson served his country as a supply sergeant while stationed in Germany.
Nelson managed Bower Buick in Peoria for many years unitl he retired in 1974.
He was a past member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria where he had served many years teaching Sunday School and was active in the Boys Brigade. He and his wife were currently attending Eastside Bible Church in Morton where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 20th. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Tuesday and from 9-10 am on Wednesday both visitations also being held at the church. Burial will be in Roanoke Township Cemetery at 1pm on Wednesday.
Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is assisting the family with arrangements.
Nelson was a true "people person" and never knew a stranger. He was known for his sense of humor and great story telling. He had a love of cars, but especially enjoyed working with and encouraging young people.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
