Ralph E. Hubbard
Lacon-Ralph E. Hubbard, 87, of Lacon passed away at 5:05 p.m. on
Sunday October 21, 2012. He was born on May 29, 1925 in
Adamsville, OH to the late Evart and Estella (Johnson)
Hubbard. He married Betty Tuttle on May 12, 1945 in Peoria,
IL; she survives.
Also surviving are children Jerry (Char) Hubbard, of
Chillicothe, Randy Hubbard, of Woodland, Anita (Willie) Evans, of
Lacon, and Jay Hubbard and his close friend, Edie, of Henry;
grandchildren Wendy and Ryan Hubbard, Angila Kepler, Joshua, Jacob,
and Justin Evans, Annie and April Hubbard, and Chad and Lydia
Hubbard; 21 great-grandchildren; and siblings Betty (Bill) Howard,
of Zanesville, OH, Myron (Wanda) Hubbard, of Zanesville, OH, June
Perry, of Zanesville, OH, Margie (Bill) Sampson, of New Port
Richie, FL; and Charlie Morgan, of East Peoria, who they helped
raise to be the man he is today.
Ralph was raised by his grandparents, Clarence and Anna
Hubbard. They moved many times as Clarence was a Methodist
minister. He was in the Boy Scouts. He attended Lash
High School and was a graduate of the Zanesville Automotive
School. He started being a mechanic when he was 13 years
old.
Ralph was drafted into the U.S. Army, but he volunteered to go
into the U.S. Navy. He achieved the rank of Aviation
Machinist Mate 1st Class. Ralph was stationed at
Ottumwa, IA, at the Naval Training Station. He later worked in
sales in the trucking industry and drove the school bus for
Sparland and Midland for 10 years.
Ralph's proudest moment was meeting his wife Betty on a blind
date. They raised four children. They now have 10
grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6
step-great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father,
grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be at
11:00 a.m. on Wednesday October 24, 2012 at Lenz Memorial Home in
Lacon; Pastor Charles Bugle will officiate. Visitation will
be one hour prior. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's
Nursing Home in Lacon or to the Vitas Hospice.
