Richard Lee Burton, 80 of Roanoke, formerly of Peoria, passed away on April 29, 2019 at the Heritage Health in ElPaso. He was born on July 4, 1938 in Peoria to the late Buril and Alvina (Ficht) Burton. He married Joan Bertschi on May 22, 1989 in Eureka. She survives.
He is survived by 4 sons: Steven (Elsa) Williams of Milton, Fl, Alan (Chelsea) Burton of Normal, Richard Benjamin (Kayla) Burton of Cornell, Aaron Blakey of Peoria; 1 daughter: Cheryl Upton of FL; 3 brothers: Roger A Burton, Robert T Burton, Ronald G Burton and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by 1 brother: Kenneth Burton.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a jet engine mechanic for 22 years achieving the rank of E-6. During his 22 years he did 5 tours in Vietnam. After his military service he worked for American Buildings Company in ElPaso as a Truck Driver. He was a member of the American Legion and the Apostolic Christian Church of Roanoke.
A visitation will be held on May 4, 2019 at Knapp-Johnson-Harris from 9 to 10 am with funeral services starting at 10am. Frank Sauder and John Bradle will officiate. Burial will follow at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
