Ditchen Blakney Friedewald, 93 years
old passed away at Heritage Health, Normal IL on Wednesday,
February 20, 2013.

There will be no visitation.
A graveside service will be held at  St. Joseph's
Catholic Cemetery, Bloomington IL at 2PM on Tuesday, February 26,
2013 with Fr. Julius Turyatoranwa officiating.  Kibler-
Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home is in charge of funeral
arrangements.

Rose was born February 22, 1919 in
Bloomington IL a daughter of Lena Brunner Ditchen and Andrew W.
Ditchen. She married Karl Blakney, June 17, 1939 and later married
John "Jack" Friedewald, November 30, 1980.

Rose is survived by her husband
John "Jack" Friedewald; her son Gary L. (Susan) Blakney, Normal IL;
grandchildren, Brian L. (Anne) Blakney, Lantana FL, Amy (Gregory)
Ummel, McLean IL; great-grandchildren, Daniel Blakney, Keith
Blakney, Karl Blakney, Lantana FL, Joshua Ummel and Jessalyn Ummel,
McLean IL,
and great-great grandchild, Daniel Blakney Jr., Perry Florida. She
is also survived by step daughters Charlotte Wright, Christy
Friedewald, Jacki Kerz-Parker and step son Mark Friedewald.

Rose was preceded in death by her
sisters Marie (Howard) Chrisman, Elizabeth (Charles) Franklin, Anna
Ditchen and brothers Joseph (Viola) Ditchen, Andrew (Anna) Ditchen,
Ignatius Ditchen, Frank (Helen)
Ditchen, Anthony (Bernice) Ditchen.

Rose was one of the original City
of Bloomington school crossing guards.  She was the crossing
guard at Oakland and Clinton Streets helping the Emerson School
children from 1956 to 1964. She was also a waitress at Lynn's Lunch
for many years and retired from the General Telephone Co. in the
food services department.

Rose enjoyed traveling and had many
great trips to Colorado jeeping to the ghost towns and abandoned
mines.  Rose was featured in a Pantagraph article about still
using a wringer washer for her weekly laundry.

Rose was a member of the Holy
Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington IL

The family requests that memorials
may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 303 N. Hershey Rd.,
Bloomington IL 61704.

Rose's family would like to thank
the OSF Medical staff and Heritage Health of Normal staff for their
care and support.

Rose was always there to comfort
and assist any of her family members and loved babysitting her
grandchildren.  She will be missed by all of us.
