ROANOKE - Russell F. Plattner, 86, of Roanoke, IL passed away at 2:35 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5 , 2017 at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.
He was born on May 12, 1930 in Carlock, IL a son to Joseph and Emma Gudeman Plattner. He married Marjorie Barth on June 29, 1952 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2014.
Surviving are three daughters, Pat (Fred) Beer of Milford, IN; Jane (Stan) DesCarpentrie of Eureka and Jennifer (Sean) Murray of Germantown Hills; two sons, Russell (Sally) Plattner Jr. of Washington and Dan (Deanne) Plattner of Lake Forest, IL; 16 grandchildren, Holly (Micah) Zeltwanger, Kari (Tim) Stoller, Jeff (Heidi) Beer, Angie (Mark) Reinhard, Regg (Bev) Beer, Jodi Beer, Troy (Amanda) Plattner, Tricia (Kyle) Fiechter, Tess (Brandon) Wiegand, Grant (Deb) DesCarpentrie, Megan (Britt) Steffen, Olivia and Owen Plattner, Kylynn, Ryan, and Keira Murray; 25 great-grandchildren and two children from CVE, Osmara and Jorge, whom Jodi supports in Magdalena, Mexico; siblings, Betty (Richard) Wiegand and Melvin (Mardell) Plattner and in-laws Gene Koch, Eddie Plattner and Ida Mae Barth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth, two sisters Annie Koch and Grace Bauer and in-laws Morris Barth, Earl Bauer and Keyla from CVE.
Russell operated Plattner Jewelry in Roanoke for 60 years. He loved and was loved by his customers and his community. He was devoted to his wife and family. His love for the Lord was evident in his life. He always had a smile, a ready joke, and a healthy dose of inspiration for all he met including many international children who called him grandpa.
The family is thankful for the years of love and support from the community, the church, and the staff at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.
He was a member of the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church where funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 9. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 8 at the Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and will be from 9:00 to 9:45 at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Life and Hope CVE or Pioneers USA.
