Ruth Backer

Roanoke-Ruth Backer, 95, of Roanoke passed away at 1:50 am on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.

She was born on November 7, 1921 in Pontiac, IL a daughter of Fred and Wanda Kluck Holzhauer. She married Herbert Backer on December 14, 1944 in Port Clinton, OH. He passed away on March 12, 1980.

Surviving are one son, Ron (Mary) Backer of Roanoke, IL; one daughter, Shirley Redmond of Barefoot Bay, FL; four grandchildren, Georgia (Ron) Martineau, James (Nina) Soffron, Jason Backer, Brooke Backer; one brother, Fred (Barbara) Holzhauer of Pontiac; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Jean Fager, and one son-in-law Dan Redmond.

Ruth was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson where she was active in the Ladies Aid. Her greatest joy was her family and she was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Pastor David Abuya will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10-11 before the service at the church. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is assisting the family with their arrangements.
