Roanoke - Stanley J. Hodel, 92, of Roanoke went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:00 pm on Monday June 22, 2015 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.

He was born on August 1, 1922 in Peoria, IL to David B. "Happy" and Anna E Herbst Hodel. He married Verna Sauder on September 9, 1945 in Roanoke. She survives.

Also surviving are his five children, Barb (Mike) Meece of Normal, IL; Dave (Maxine) Hodel of Bloomington, IL; John (Linda) Hodel of Roanke, IL; Becky (Mark) Grimm of Morton, IL; Phil (Lynne) Hodel of Roanoke, IL; 11 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Hoffman, Helen Leman; and one infant granddaughter, Anna Hodel.

An Army veteran, Stan proudly served his country overseas in Europe during WWII. He was assigned to Service Battery 118th Field Artillery Battalion 30th Infantry Division. He was a member of the Roanoke American Legion Post # 463.

Stan was involved in the family business, Prairie Dehydrating Company in Roanoke for over 30 years. He also served as the first administrator of the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke for five years before he retired.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and attended church in Roanoke, Bloomington, and Ft. Myers during his life. He was the originator and director of the Roanoke church choir "The Prairie Choristers" and served his church as song leader and in other various capacities throughout his lifetime.

Always willing to serve others, Stan was active in many community organizations throughout his lifetime. He served on the Tri-County Planning Commission, he served as president of the American Dehydrating Association, he was a charter member of the Illinois Central College board of trustees, he served on the board at the Apostolic Christian Children's Home in Leo, IN and was a founder and charter member of the Roanoke Park.

Stan had a love for music and passed this love on to all who knew him. He enjoyed traveling and had a wonderful sense of humor. His love of family and his walk of faith were the things most important to Stan and passing this passion on to others was his true legacy.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday June 26th at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and from 9-9:45 am at the church on Friday. Burial with military rites will be in the church cemetery.
