Willard Reiner
Roanoke- Willard S. Reiner, 92, of Roanoke, passed away at 6:18 am on Saturday morning, June 28, 2014 at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Home.
Willard was born on a farm north of Roanoke on August 4, 1921 and was the only son of Seth B. and Gretja Wragge Reiner.
Surviving is his sister Joyce Vissering of Roanoke and 12 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Mabel Imm, Helen Quiram, Dorothy Gerdes, Velda Hawk and Laurene Robertson.
An Army veteran, Willard proudly served his country in WWII in the South Pacific, primarily in the Phllipine Islands. After returning home from the war, he farmed west of Benson, Illinois for many decades until his retirement in 1975.
He was a lifelong member of the the St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Benson. He was also a member of the Roanoke American Legion Post #463 and the Bloomington Moose Lodge.
Willard will be remembered as a quiet man with a good sense of humor and an active interest in current events. He loved to dance and to tell an occasional story. He will be dearly missed by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday July 1st at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Rev. William Hecht will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10-11 am prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke is handling the arrangements.
