Roanoke - William "Bill" Hodel, 83, of Roanoke, IL passed peacefully from this life at 9:30 pm on Saturday August 16, 2014 at his home, surrounded by the family he dearly loved.
He was born on March 27, 1931 in Roanoke, IL to Silas and Caroline Huber Hodel. He married Betty Zimmerman on June 12, 1955 in Forrest, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Brent (Marge) Hodel; Brad ( Patty) Hodel both of Roanoke; two daughters, Boni (Edward) Stoller of Aurora,CO; Barbie (Tony) Jones of Roanoke; two brothers, Roy (Helen) Hodel of Gridley; James (Doris) Hodel of Roanoke; one sister, Dorothy (Marvin) Schmidgal of Eureka; twelve grandchildren, Sarah (Danny) Bertsch, Nathan (Jamie) Hodel, Angie (Robey) Shuck; Dustin (Mandy) Hodel; Erin (Caleb) Leman, Seth (Angie) Hodel, Michael Stoller, Kristi (Joel) Leman, Jared Stoller, David Stoller, Nick Sizemore, Elizabeth (Julian) Jackson; and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two, grandsons, Brian and Jacob Hodel; two brothers, Ralph and Gerald; and five sisters, Mildred Aeschleman, Norma Baumann, Irene Legel, Verda Blunier, and Malinda Gerber.
After serving with the Army in Korea, Bill became a life-long farmer in rural Roanoke, producing grain and eggs. He operated Hodel Appliance Service, prepared tax returns for H&R Block, and served on the school and township boards for many years.
He was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather, who always saw the good in others. Above all, Bill was a gentle child of God. He was a member of the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church where he was a minister for twenty-five years. Bill lived the way he preached.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 20, 2014 at the Roanoke Apostolic Christian Church. Church ministers will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Tuesday at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke and from 9-9:45 am on Wednesday prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
