William Miller

Benson - William L. "Bill" Miller, 86, of Benson, passed away at 12:05 am on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.
He was born on May 9, 1930 in Robinson, IL to Fred and Irene Walker Miller. He married Ruth E. Cordes on January 28, 1951 in Benson, IL. She passed away on May 13, 2012.
Surviving are two daughters, Deb (Jim) Schirer of Roanoke; Teri (Jim) McDowell of Mendota; two sons, Randy (Pat) Miller of Groveland; David Miller of Benson; one sister, Shirley (Don) Darlington of Rockford, WA; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, and one grandson, Joey Micheletti.
An Army veteran, Bill proudly served his country as sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member of the Benson American Legion Post #454 where he served many years as chaplain.
Bill worked for Caterpillar for 34 years before retiring. He then worked for SPAFAS in Roanoke for 10 years.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Benson where he served on the church council and the cemetery board for many years. Bill loved his horses and donkeys and was a member of the Eureka Saddle Club.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday September 3rd at St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Benson. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church and from 9 - 9:45 prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Burial with military rites will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
