Eureka-Retired teacher Aline Johnson Schrock, 93 of Eureka, IL died at her residence on Sunday, December 11, 2005, at 5:00 p.m. She was born October 1, 1912, in Denver, Colorado to Eli and Mable Snyder Detweiler. She married LaRue Johnson on June 27, 1937, in Eureka, IL. They had two children Virginia (Dean) Eyman of Oakridge, TN and Dr. Charles (Carole) Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO. LaRue died in 1952.
On November 22, 1956, she married Vernon (Tim) Schrock, who survives. Her parents, one brother, Rev. Howard Detweiler, and one sister, Ella Byrnes, preceded her in death. Also surviving is one sister, Virginia Sterrenberg, of Salem, OR, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two "adopted" AFS students, Mohammad Rachman of Indonesia and Gillian Tucker of South Africa (She was able to later visit each of them).
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Eureka College, later earning a Master's Degree from Illinois State University. She taught many children in Sterling, IL and Eureka, IL for a total of thirty-nine years. After retirement, she was appointed to the Council and then the Board of the Illinois Agency for the Aging. In each group she assumed chairmanship for a total of six years of the twenty years that she served. At the same time, she accepted a place on the Eureka Library Board. She was the vice president of this group for several years before she resigned because of her health.
She enjoyed people and belonged to Twentieth Century, a group that takes turns giving book reviews, ENK, a group of friends, and was an active member of the National Women's Club. Professionally she was a lifetime member of the States Retired Teachers, the American Association of University Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teacher's sorority, and a member of the Eureka College Women's Board. Most of all she enjoyed her church, Disciples of Christ, where she served as Elder, Sunday School teacher, CWF chair and member, Choir member and hand bell player.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2005 at the Eureka Christian Church with Rev. Richard Richards officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Burial of ashes will be in the Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka. Cremation will be accorded.
There will also be a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at the Assembly Room at Maple Lawn Health Center in Eureka. Rev. Robert Harnish will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorials maybe made to the Eureka Christian Church or Eureka College.
